I picked up this series as I have read and massively enjoyed the authors work writing as [author:Katie Allen|1979165] and was looking for more by her to read and discovered this is a new series she is working on as Katie Ruggle. Hence I was looking forward to it.

However so far, while I have LOVED everything I have read by her as Katie Allen, this was just a so so start to the series for me.

To start with I could not help but feel the heroine is the most inept teacher ever, since one kid almost drowns then she loses 2 others.

Then on the search she kept getting distracted by how hot the hero was.

And their history, which seemed to have made a big impact was just sort of brushed over. She is a qualified teacher, and he has his own business, as well as being in a dive rescue team, had split up 4 years before, and I sort of got the impression that they had been quite young at the time, and they made reference to the fact they were young and immature, hence making me think they were teens BUT only 4 years had passed! And a LOT had happened in 4 years, she had started seeing their mutual friend, married him, divorced him and been divorced for over a year. I just kept thinking – It is only 4 years, 1. how much more mature and grown up are they really (and how old are they now?), and so much seems to have happened in that time.

Oh and this is a short book, and so much extra “drama” just took away from the emotional aspect of it. The kid who nearly drowns, the lost girls, the search effort, them getting lost, seeing a suspicious character in the wood, coming across the hide out of a suspected arsonist, a bloody mountain lion!

I actually like the hero, the heroine was a bit “meh” and overall would have liked more focus on them as a couple and their history.

An ok, disappointing 3 stars given how much I love her books as Katie Allen.

And yet, I am going to carry on with the series however, hope it improves.
