This was a great start to the series.

A story about opposites attract and trying to overcome your past.

Ideally, in my romances, I like a little bit less back and forth and for the characters to get together properly before the end of the book, but it fit the characters here well.

They both had pasts that were now affecting them in the present and preventing them for feeling like they could move on and be together.

Ryan was a great hero, a great dad and has an awesome family.

Maiya, has only her mom who she has some major issues with, and some huge hang ups and feelings of unworthiness due to her history.

If I am honest, it is not necessarily a relaxing happy read, since as I say, there was a lot of back and forth, and both of them waiting for the other to break their heart, but what it was was a truly emotional heartfelt read and that made the ending feel all the more real and honest.

A great start to the series. There was one issue left unresolved with regards to Ryan’s son and his grandparents on his birth mothers side, but since this is a series about the family, I assume this may be resolved in future books.

A great 4 stars.
